When a veteran walks through our doors, they often bring more than bags or paperwork.
They carry grief. Exhaustion. Trauma. Hope—maybe. But not always.
At Building Lives Foundation, we created The Academy to meet those veterans right where they are—no matter how heavy the burden.
A Program Built on Trust, Time, and Personal Care
The Academy isn’t a one-size-fits-all housing program. It’s a community of support, designed to give veterans the space and stability they need to heal and grow at their own pace. Whether someone stays three months or twelve, they’re finally given what’s been missing for far too long:
Stability.
Direction.
People who care.
One of our residents puts it best:
“I feel like I’ve got a purpose again. And it feels great to have support… because before, it was just hopelessness. But now I know it’s not.”
More Than a Place to Sleep
Many veterans come to us after spending nights in a tent—or worse, feeling invisible. They’ve faced trauma most can’t imagine, and they’re often dealing with PTSD, addiction, or mental health challenges.
The Academy surrounds them with mentorship, housing, and practical support—from daily structure to long-term planning.
“You don’t have to leave right away. If it takes you longer than the next person, that’s fine. They cater to your personal needs.”
Expanding the Vision: A New Home for Hope
Thanks to the incredible support of our sponsor, Home Depot, Building Lives is expanding. With their partnership, we are currently renovating a new home in Whites Creek, TN to serve even more veterans.
This home represents more than bricks and beams; it’s another chapter in our mission to restore dignity and build futures.

This is What Building Lives Looks Like
Every conversation, every meal shared, every small breakthrough—this is the work. It’s the quiet victories, the renewed confidence, and the simple belief that healing is possible.
“The great thing about this is… you know there’s hope. You know there’s people willing to help you.”
That’s what The Academy is for.
That’s what Building Lives Foundation is for.
To be the place where hopelessness turns into possibility.
Want to Help?
Whether you’re a veteran in need of support or a neighbor who wants to give back, we invite you to connect.
